George Andrew Huron was born in March 1838 in Hendricks County, Indiana to Katherine Harding and Benjamin Abbott Huron. He spent some of his schooling at the Methodist Academy of Danville, Indiana, and just before enlisting, he married Mary Frances Freeman. He joined the 7th Indiana Infantry, Co. I in August 1861 after the Civil War broke out.
