Haydon, Samuel James Bouverie (British sculptor, painter, and printmaker, 1815-1891)

Samuel James Bouverie Haydon (1815-1891) was born in Heavitree, Devon. Although he may have been originally apprenticed to a solicitor, in 1838 he began the study of sculpture with Edward Hodges Baily, RA. He exhibited busts and groups at the Royal Academy from 1840 to 1876, and his commissions included portrait busts of the Earl of Egremont, the Earl of Radnor, and Admiral Duncombe Pleydell Pleydell-Bouverie. Haydon married and had at least one child, Flaxman Haydon. He died in 1891. ...
