One letter written by Henry Hill Goodell, from Baton Rouge, La., to "my dear Elise." Stationed aboard the steamer Mary Boardman, Goodell recounts his visit to New Orleans with descriptions of slavery, an encounter with a secessionist woman, and the fighting and buildings in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
