Bhumibol Adulyadej (b. 1927) King of Thailand, was crowned in 1946. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and educated in the United States and Switzerland, he learned to play a number of reed instruments including the clarinet and soprano saxophone. His chief areas of musical interest are early jazz and 1940's-style swing; he was influenced by Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, and Lionel Hampton, with whom he participated in jam sessions.
