This collection contains studio portraits of U. S. veterans in uniform, taken circa 1880-1899, arranged in alphabetical order. Specific military ranks are often provided, but information concerning which wars in which the men served is not given. Because of the dates provided, it is possible the men were veterans of the U. S. Civil War (1861-1865) or the Spanish-American War (1898). Portrait studio locations are identified as Washington D. C., Chicago, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Denver, Boston, San Francisco, New York City, San Antonio, and St. Louis, among others.
