Diary (152 pages) contains an account of Thompson's activities in 1842 while serving in the House of Representatives with comments upon social life in Washington, D.C., and two biographical sketches. ALS (Washington, D.C., 1848 August 10) from Thompson concerns a synopsis of his speech published in the Southerner; and LS (Washington, D.C., 1877 September 3) from Thompson to Andrew H. Hamilton, Fort Wayne, Ind., discusses regulations for the appointment of cadets to the United States Naval Academy.
