Statutten Buch der Statt Trier, [159-?].

Manuscript containing the city charter granted to Trier in 1580, together with the city statutes. The charter was granted by Archbishop-Elector Jacob III (von Eltz) after the city's long struggle for independence was settled in his favor, and remained in force until the time of the French Revolution. The statutes were wrought by the Bürgermeister and the Rath of the city in 1593-1594, and also remained in effect until the Revolution. A note to this effect, written on the front pastedown, is signed by George Lincoln Burr and dated July 1889. The manuscript is bound in full calf, very worn, with a red morocco spine label. Title from spine.
