Correspondence to and from various people including book editors; personal writings of Haley, writings on local events, personal thoughts on religion, books read, people, and life in general; research notes, chiefly on the history of Saco and Biddeford, Me., but also including interests in Indian raids and fortification; Civil War papers, including diaries, reminiscences on the war, statistics, newspaper clippings, and scrapbook, reflecting Haley's personal activities with Company I, 17th Maine Volunteers, and his discouragement with health problems and daily military life; Dyer Library materials include Haley's writings on librarianship, collection records, lists of suggested books, library catalogs, and comments about the library and its relationship with the city of Saco; genealogical notes including statistics on births and deaths of local residents as well as the Haley family; scrapbooks containing clippings of local news and humor as well as numerous photos, and articles on various subjects; photographs, chiefly of views of Saco; maps chiefly used by Haley's daughter Adelaide Haley for her research; personal documents such as obituaries, wedding certificates, and financial records; books, pamphlets, and journals, including captain's log book from ship Snow Leopard; and ephemera such as prints and drawings, art cards, celandars, and posters, collected by Haley, including a "Still Life" charcoal drawing completed by him.
