William Thomas (Tom) Chase was an art conservator, spending his career as head conservator at the Freer Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution. He was born in Boston, Mass., in 1940. He majored in the conservation of art at Oberlin College and further studied art conservation at New York University. Chase wrote a number of papers, chiefly pertaining to the conservation of metal.
