Sherman of Chicago (Ill.), during his service with the Union army during the Civil War, beginning as Colonel of the 88th Illinois Infantry, known as the second Chicago Board of Trade regiment, and ending as a General. Letters from Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Washington (D.C.), and Louisiana discuss family matters and the war. Many envelopes are included.
