Meeting minutes, reports, scrapbooks, incorporation certificate, and other records of the Civic Federation of Chicago, including minutes: 1893-1899 and 1926-1932; and records of the Chicago Bureau of Public Efficiency, which merged with it, including minutes 1910-1932 and minutes from the two organizations combined, 1932-1947. Also included in the collection is a scrapbook compiled by Bernard E. Sunny about the Chicago New Charter Convention and its work, 1902-1903. The collection also has a scrapbook of newsletters, announcements and other printed materials, 1912-1928; information from the governor's tax crisis, 1931-1932; a copy of the Administrative Survey of the City of Chicago, 1940-1948; and the Report of the Budget Survey Committee on the Chicago Water and Sewer System, 1948. Topics of the report include Illinois and Chicago government finances, taxes, services and civic priorities.

The Civic Federation of Chicago was founded in 1894 in response to municipal political corruption and poor quality city services.
