Correspondence written by or to members of Bezaleel Beebe's family, including his son William Beebe (1782-1861); two of William Beebe's children, Clara Beebe Darling (1820-1913) and Philip Schuyler Beebe (1812-1891); William Beebe (1851-1917); Lucy Beebe (Robbins) Beebe (1816-1876), wife of Philip Schuyler Beebe; and her parents Samuel and Lucy Robbins who corresponded with members of her family and their spouses, including Lucy's sister Esther Beebe Whittlesey (1777-1818), Esther's husband Newton Whittlesey (1777-1874) and their daughter Mary Whittlesey Hubbard, all of Cornish, N.H., as well as other relatives in Lawrenceville, Pa., and elsewhere. Military papers (1772-1780) of Bezaleel Beebe include orderly book (1776, 1780); account book; correspondence; commissions; lists of enlistees; and other documents. Other papers series include deeds documenting land transactions in Litchfield as early as 1729 and autobiography written by Bezaleel' s mother Bethiel Osborn Beebe Peck.

William Beebe was born in Litchfield, Connecticut, on September 4, 1851. He was educated at the Litchfield Select Academy and graduated with the Yale College Class of 1873. Shortly after graduation, he began studies at the Yale Graduate School in mathematics and astronomy. By 1876, he was already a tutor at Yale, becoming assistant professor of mathematics in 1882. Chiefly residents of Litchfield, Conn.; family of Ebenezer Beebe and Bethiel Osborn Beebe Peck. Their son, Bezaleel Beebe was born in 1741 in Litchfield. After serving in the French and Indian War he returned to his farm in Litchfield. In 1775 he commissioned lieutenant and sent to Boston soon after the Battle of Lexington.
