Werner Michel collection of World War II material, 1945.

Letters of appreciation from a group of prominent political prisoners liberated from their Nazi captors by American troops in May, 1945, in the South Tyrol region (Trentino-Alto Adige) of Italy. In the last months of World War II, Nazi officials moved the captives through various concentration camps in Germany in order to evade Allied troops. The letters cite fellow captive Franz Liedig and his work on their behalf. Correspondents include Léon Blum, Xavier, prince de Bourbon-Parma, Franz Halder, Miklós Horthy, Miklós Kállay, Friedrich Leopold, prince of Prussia, Martin Niemöller, Alexandros Papagos, Gabriel Piguet, Petr Frolovich Privalov, Kurt Schuschnigg, Fritz Thyssen, and Alexander Zamoyski. Also includes a list with over 135 names and signatures of the prisoners.
