Warrant issued in 1722 by John Ballantine, clerk, to the Sheriff of Suffolk County, Mass., for the arrest of James Franklin of Boston, printer. (James was the older brother of Benjamin Franklin). Verso contains an annotation by Edward Winslow, sheriff, certifying that said Franklin had been arrested and taken before the justices of the peace. Another warrant issued by Penn Townsend, Edward Bromfield, and J. Willard, justices of the peace, authorizes the gaol keeper to retain custody of Franklin due to refusal to post bond.
