Eleven letters (some in Spanish, 1881-1883) regarding the engineering and construction of the Farrocarril de Manzanillo y Laredo branch; together with Hurley's scrapbook (1881-1885) also relating to the project, containing ephemera documenting activities along the rail line, including death announcements, dance programs, poetry, a series of chromolithographs illusrating bull fighting, menu from the Palmer House in Chicago for a dinner commemorating U.S. Grant's death, and letter of recommendation for Hurley sent to Grant by John Russell Young.
