Boothe writes: "we have had a general revolution of things in this command ... most of us were dismounted, in the next the notorious Carter's Brigade has been disowned by the authorities of the war department and we are now known as the 25th Reg. Tex. Cavalry ... most of the men have been sick and five have died in or near camps."
