The Capital Transit Company, a street railway company, was formed in 1895 in Washington, D.C. Its merger in 1933 with the Washington Railway and Electric Company led to the formation of the Capital Transit Company and with all street railways in Washington under one management. The company continued to provide service until 1956 when its franchise was revoked. It was succeeded by D.C.
