Henry DeWitt Smith (1888-1962), a mining engineer, became manager of the Kennicott mine in Alaska in 1914 after graduating from Yale University in 1910. From 1917-1924 he was mine superintendent of the United Verde Copper Company in Arizona and from 1924-1927 he was an engineer for the New York Trust Company.
