Typescript (260 p., 1899) of a biography by Julia Bacon entitled Captain Daniel Bacon (ship captain, of Barnstable and later Boston, Mass.); together with 2 letters: the first (1863) written from Liverpool, England, signed by Wm. R. Worrell, relating to the Confederate raiders and the fitting out of the ship Alabama there, and the second (1865) written from San Francisco, Calif., to William Worrell's wife in Barnstable, reporting Worrell's death at sea.

Built in Philadelphia as the Habana, the CSS Sumter was originally used as a blockade runner in New Orleans. In 1861, she was purchased for use by the Confederate Government.
