Deed books (1037 v.), consisting of copies of deeds of properties in Monmouth County, N.J., recorded in the office of the County Clerk; and loose deeds (1722-1947), chiefly recorded, known as "unreturned deeds", because they were not picked up by property owners after being recorded in the deed books.

In 1906, any individual or group of individuals forming a partnership or limited partnership became regulated by the New Jersey state legislature.
