Letter of recommendation submitted by Lincoln to the Secretary of War, signed by a number of city officials, for Franklin Barrett, who served as clerk in the Paymaster's Dept. and in the Sanitary Commission during the Civil War and in the Auditor's Office of the Treasury Dept. in postwar years, also establishing a grocery business in 1874 and selling real estate and fire insurance.
