Expressing his relief at hearing of his son's improved condition; suggesting that they speak in person about "the secretary matter"; discussing authorship of a painting [referred to in previous letter (MA 382.15) as his "great acquisition"], the possibility of it being a Velazquez or a Tristan, and the anticipated decision of [Frederic W.] Burton at the National Gallery; apologizing if having said anything to "impugn" his friend [Samuel Joshua] Cooper's "liberality."
