Mabel Loomis Todd was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on November 10, 1856. She married David Peck Todd in 1879, and they moved to Amherst, Massachusetts where her husband taught astronomy at Amherst College. Mabel Loomis Todd soon became intimately involved with William Austin Dickinson, brother of Emily Dickinson. Mrs. Todd later edited the first published poems of Emily Dickinson.
