Four scrapbooks on microfilm containing primarily newspaper clippings along with correspondence, political advertising, and proclamations. Clippings contain news articles and editorials about Blanchard's political career, Louisiana politics, race relations and lynchings, the New Orleans yellow fever epidemic of 1905 and the quarantine of the city, Theodore Roosevelt's visit to New Orleans after the epidemic, and the 1906 fire in the state capitol building. Correspondence is primarily from well-wishers congratulating Blanchard on his political victories and letters to and from President Theodore Roosevelt regarding help from the federal government during the New Orleans yellow fever epidemic. Political advertising consists of ribbons promoting Blanchard's congressional and gubernatorial campaigns. Also included are two proclamations signed by Blanchard: one from the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Mo. stating that August 20, 1904 was Louisiana Day at the exposition along with a program of activities for the day; the other from the Lewis and Clark Exposition in Portland, Oregon proclaiming July 31, 1905 Louisiana Day at the exposition.

Donelson Caffery was born near Franklin, La., on September 10, 1835, and served as a lieutenant in the 13th Louisiana Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He married Bethia Richardson in 1869. He was a planter in St. Mary Parish, La., state senator for St. Mary Parish (1892-1894), and U.S. senator from Louisiana (1893-1901). He died in New Orleans, La., on December 30, 1906. Newton Crain Blanchard was an attorney, politician, and governor born in Rapides Parish, La. He received his law degree from the University of Louisiana (now Tulane) in 1870 and began practicing law in Shreveport the following year.
