John Camden Neild inherited considerable wealth from his father, but lived as a "celebrated miser" or eccentric of his time. Upon his death he left Ł500,000 to Queen Victoria. She distributed the monies to tenants and executives of Neild's estate, repaired the church at North Marston, Buckinghamshire, and had a stained-glass window installed in this church as a memorial to Neild. The extracts are copies from various sources and correspondence between Mangles and members of the Queen's Court. Pasted in are news accounts of the Neild affair.
