Diary of a clergyman in the Washington Territory [manuscript], 1852-1857.

Diary, 1852-1857, of an unidentified clergyman (probably Reverend George M. Berry), who was the chaplain at Fort Steilacoom in the Washington Territory. The diary begins with a detailed account of the author's ocean voyage from New York City via the isthmus of Panama. It continues with descriptions of his activities in Oregon and Washington Territories, including visits to Olympia and Seattle, travels among the Indian tribes, and events in and around Fort Steilacoom and Fort Nisqually. Includes mentions of Hudson's Bay Company officials Edward Huggins and William Fraser Tolmie.

William Fraser Tolmie (1812-1886), graduated from the Medical College of Edinburgh, joined the service of the Hudson's Bay Company, arrived at Fort Vancouver in 1833, and later became chief trader at Fort Nisqually and agent of the Puget Sound Agricultural Company.
