General description of the collection: A comparison between U.S. combat actions of WWII in North Africa and Operation Desert Shield by Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Leonid Kondratiuk and LTC Doug Johnson was written for the U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans. It focuses on "the political and military situation and the environment of the North African Campaign in comparison to Operation Desert Shield." The paper states that though there were similarities, there were "marked differences." It presents a brief history of how the United States (U.S.) Army and the British Army built cooperation and coordination in the North African Campaign in World War II (WWII). The paper reports that the environment encountered in Tunisia in World War II was nothing life the deserts of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, though media reports indicated otherwise. It concludes by briefly comparing the training and equipment of the early WWII Army and the Desert Shield Army.
