H.P. Wingate letter : Sacramento, Calif., to Mr. Editor, [N.H.?], 1852 Mar. 9.

Manuscript letter giving details of flood conditions in Sacramento, Calif. including levies on the American River breaking. Also describes general life in the city including building, legislative sessions, gambling, and drinking. Ends with a post script: "If you should find an[y] thing here worth publishing you are at libitry [sic] to do as you pleas [sic]. Politics here I do not know about but hope you have good news from the old Granit [sic] state if it is not Whig it ought to be." Also includes typescript transcription of letter.
