Rod M. Lincoln collection, 1933-1987.

This collection consists of photographs, construction drawings, printed items and papers relating to Freeport Sulphur Co. and the town of Port Sulphur. Photographs show images of plant operations, mines and ports, town buildings and residents. Drawings consist of blueprints, maps, plats and engineering drawings for industrial and residential construction at Grande Ecaille and Port Sulphur. There is also a drawing produced by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of the Barataria levee system in Plaquemines Parish. Papers contain correspondence, notices and informal reports. They illustrate the close relationship between Freeport Sulphur Co. and its involvement in town affairs, as well as its subsequent withdrawal. The collection also reflects the fear of Communist sabotage that was prevalent in the United States during the 1950s.
