The Van Buren County group of famous men, 1926?

This collection consists of an essay written by Harlan explaining that his list of famous men originated with an 1872 address delivered by George G. Wright before the Pioneer Association of Van Buren County; an essay explaining Harlan's expanded version of Wright's group of famous men; and newspaper clippings from the Keosauqua Republican which ran a series of biographical sketches of Harlan's famous men. The first sketch appeared in the April 1, 1926 edition of the paper.

Lawyer, author and curator of the Iowa State Historical Department from 1908-1937. Harlan earned a law degree from Drake University (Des Moines) and was admitted to the bar in 1896. Prior to his appointment to the position of Historical Department curator he served as Van Buren County Attorney (1898-1902) and practiced with a firm in Keosauqua, Iowa (1902-1907).
