Patent to recreate a dukedom of Newcastle on the marriage of Henrietta, daughter of the last Duke of Newcastle, with the son of Lord Oxford, ca. 1713.

Thomas Edwards, esq., drafted this patent in Latin to recreate a dukedom of Newcastle when Henrietta Holles, daughter and heir of John Holles, the last Duke of Newcastle, married Edward Harley, the son of Lord Oxford. A note in English in a different hand explained that Edwards wrote this document when it was expected that the Queen would have granted such a patent, which was defeated by the misunderstanding between the persons then in the administration, principally by Lords Halifax and Bolingbroke with Lord Montagu's assistance.
