William J. Miller was the eighth member of law enforcement in his family, serving 20 years in the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department. His various roles included Corrections' Division Commander, Commander of Patrol, Detention, Personnel and Training Divisions, Deputy, Sergeant, and Lieutenant prior to attaining rank of Captain.
