Eliphalet Pearson was born in Newbury, Massachusetts in 1752 and graudated from Harvard College in 1773. He became the first principal of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts in 1778. He taught at Harvard from 1786 to 1806, when he resigned and returned to Andover to found the Andover Theological Seminary.
