Annotations in the Works of Mr. Alexander Pope, [circa 1740?].

Extensive manuscript annotations, in a single unidentified hand, in a copy of The Works of Mr. Alexander Pope (London : Printed by W. Bowyer, for Bernard Lintot between the Temple-Gates, 1717). The annotations document the reader's collation of this volume with the 1736 edition of Pope's works, as they record variants in the poems along with the additional explanatory critical material from the 1736 edition. The reader also transcribes into blank spaces the new poems found in the 1736 edition. The Rape of the Lock has been collated against both the 1736 edition and the first edition of 1714-15.

1 v. (circa 440 annotated p.) ; 30 cm.
