Letters by Robert Chesley Osborn to Eero Saarinen and Lilian Swann Saarinen, circa 1950. In the brief and occasionally illustrated letters, Osborn describes life in Salisbury, Connecticut, and visits by friends, including Ben Shahn and Curt Valentin, as well as his dislike for Ivan Chermayeff. Artwork consists of a collage and an illustrated map from Lakeville, Connecticut, to his home. The collection also includes a copy of his book, Low & Inside (New York: Farrar, Straus & Young, 1953) inscribed by Lilian Swann Saarinen.

Cambridge artist and sculptor, Lilian Swann Saarinen (1912-1995), studied at the Art Students League with Alexander Archipenko in 1928, and later with Albert Stewart and Heninz Warneke from 1934-1936, before moving to Michigan where she studied with Carl Milles at the Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1936-1940.
