Manuscript notebook containing the notes of an unidentified nineteenth-century farmer on the Channel Island of Guernsey. The notebook includes: notes on Arthur Young's Travels during the years 1787, 1788, and 1789; notes, in French, on the agriculture of Guernsey; copies of the compiler's answers to two government surveys (1813 and 1832) concerning the state of local agriculture; a letter on beets, signed Daniel Naftel of the Vrangue; a diagram of a wall garden at St. George in 1836, featuring 123 fruit trees; and a list of over 30 varieties of roses imported from Rennes in 1825 and 1828.
