Enclosure agreement and schedule of land allotments in Barnsley, Yorkshire, 1777-1779.

Manuscript copy of an enclosure agreement and schedule of land allotments for 486 acres of common, waste and marsh lands in Barnsley, Yorkshire. Carried out under the authority of the Enclosure Act of 1777, this agreement distributed the common lands to all who had previously held rights in the commons of Barnsley, from the Duke of Leeds to John Senior, butcher and John Nayler, cordwainer. The first five pages of the volume set forth the original enclosure agreement; this is followed by a detailed list in columns of the original proprietors and their occupations, their enclosed allotments and their boundaries, and their fence repair obligations, if any. This is followed by a similar columned list concerning the tithe rentals, which at that point were the property of the Duke of Leeds. There are formal attestations of oath at the end of the document signed by several villagers.
