Margaret W. Mellor-Gill diaries and papers, 1899-1991.

Four diaries, holograph, by Margaret W. Mellor-Gill of Germantown, Pennsylvania for calendar years 1915 to 1917 and 1919, during which time Mellor-Gill appears to have attended the William Penn Charter School and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Diaries contain brief, regular entries relating to family, friends, school, and social events. A family cookbook, inscribed "Mrs. L. Bancroft Mellor", contains recipes, including some on Margaret W. Mellor-Gill's printed letterhead, identifying the addresses of her design studio and shop. Other material, dating from 1899 to 1991, includes incoming letters, some in French, manuscript notes and drawings, photographs, dried flowers, clippings, and printed ephemera, including maps.

The William Penn Charter School, an independent college preparatory school, had its beginnings in the Public Grammar School founded in 1689 as a result of instructions from William Penn to the Provincial Council of Pennsylvania. Thomas Lloyd, president of the Council, requested Philadelphia Monthly Meeting to take charge of the matter.
