Sermon written for the thanksgiving day appointed by His Majesty : in commemoration of the great naval victory obtained by the British fleet under Rear Admiral Sir H. Nelson, K. B. (now Lord Nelson) off the mouth of the river Nile, circa 1798.

Manuscript fair copy of a lengthy sermon interpreting British history as "Rapidly ameliorating" from the beginning to "the Establishment of our Present Happy and Enviable Constitution." The sermon text is Psalms 147:20, and the author draws an extended parallel between Britain and Israel as nations specially chosen by God. A detailed summary and analysis of English history in this light is followed by a similar analysis of Scottish history, and the sermon concludes with a brief appreciation of Nelson's victory. The volume also contains a shorter sermon on the necessity of faith as the foundation of all virtue.
