A journey into England in the year 1598, translated from the Latin by Horace Walpole Esq., 1770 / by Paul Hentzner.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of transcription, dated 1770, of the 1757 Strawberry Hill edition of Hentzner's work, in which Hentzner records his visit to London, describing the geography, monuments, and churches. He visits the Tower, recounts English history, and describes the theatres. Elsewhere, he describes Cambridge and Oxford Universities and visits castles. The volume also contains a section titled A short description of England which addresses English government, its system of justice, ecclesiastical jurisdiction, and manners, followed by a section titled Illustrious families of England, which contains a list of the nobility. The last page in the manuscript reads, "This book was transcribed by Valentina Aynscombe in the Year 1770."

Dr. John Allen (1771-1843) was a political and historical writer. In 1791 he graduated with an MD from the University of Edinburgh. In 1801, in his capacity as a doctor, he accompanied Lord Holland to Spain, and on his return to England became a regular inmate of Holland House. Although he served in 1806 as under-secretary to the commissioners for treating with America, Allen is best known for his social life at Holland House, especially as documented in his diary.
