Manuscript story, original and unpublished, accompanied by 24 small illustrations, all in pen and ink. The story's title page incorporates the words of the title into an illustration of Tenby Castle. There follows a leaf with an illustration of the coast at Tenby, and then 23 leaves bearing the text and illustrations of the story. The story relates a comic tale of an inept Decimus Dace, who embarks on a holiday to Tenby and endures a series of absurd accidents and confusions. The illustrations depict each stage of his journey, including the train trip to Tenby, the cluster of tourists at Castle Hill, and Dace's wanderings (and near drowning) along the rocky coast. The volume is prefaced by a letter, dated Bank: Manchester, Feb. 17th, 1869, addressed to William Cunliffe Brooks, Esq. (1819-1900). Brooks was a wealthy Manchester banker, who in 1869 acquired the Deeside Estates of Glen Muick, Glen Tanar, and Dinnet. The author writes to Brooks: "Dear Sir, Your being at Tenby has revived the pleasant impressions which I retain of the place, so that I have found myself irresistibly led to amuse myself at intervals, after hard labour on the place, with sketching a few of the incidents of Mr. Dace's visit to Tenby ...". The letter is signed by the author, but illegible.
