Excerpts from the diary of George Mifflin Dallas, 1856-1861.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of an excerpt from p. 355 from the published version of Dallas' diary, which describes his visit to Strawberry Hill on July 23, 1859. He expresses his overall disappointment with the visit, criticizing Lady Frances Waldegrave's looks, the way in which she has redecorated Strawberry Hill, and the lack of items there that he would care to own; but he also describes two paintings with which he is impressed, and discusses the recent peace treaty at Villafranca with the other members of the party, including the Duke d'Aumale and Lord Stratford de Redcliffe . The volume concludes with Dallas' description of Countess Waldegrave's birth and several marriages. The work is prefaced by a brief biography of Dallas, which mentions that the diary was published by his daughter Susan in 1892.
