Angelo family papers, 1762-1805.

The records of the famed Angelo family who ran a fashionable fencing academy in London from the 1750s to the 1890s include personal and business correspondence and legal documents including leases, assignments and grants concerning the Angelo and Johnson famileis (1798-1806) as well as more recent related papers inserted in a modern notebook along with fragments of letters and photographs. The Angelo corresponded with such fashionable figures as Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Thomas Sheridan, Elizabeth Anne Sheridan, Charles Douglas, 3rd Duke of Queensbury, Catherine, Duchess of Queensbury, Henry, 10th Earl of Pembroke, and Alfred Forman. The friendly and chatty letters discuss the practicalities of travelling, living in London, London society and gossip, the London theatre, and family news as well as political issues of the day (the Seven Years War, Warren Hastings, and the government of Bengal).
