Legal documents in the trial of Richard Chambers, [1629?].

Manuscript, on paper, in a secretary hand, containing copies of the various petitions, briefs, informations, answers, interrogatories, rulings, judgements, and other documents pertaining to the Star Chamber trial of Richard Chambers for seditious language used in his refusal to pay duties on a case of silk grogram. Documents include the attorney general's original information against Chambers, which quotes his statement that merchants "are no place in the world so screwed and wrung" as they are in England and his favorable comparison of English and Turkish taxation. Also included is a list of fines imposed on Chambers, an inventory of his goods and chattels, and several petitions for release from the Fleet.

Prynne published a pamphlet, Histriomastix (1632) in which he denounced female actors, at the same time Queen Henrietta Maria was participating in a court masque.
