The papers consist of correspondence, memorabilia, and photographs which document Harvey Seymour Sussman's year as a member of the Army Specialized Training Program (A.S.T.P.) at Yale University and his service as a member of the Office of Strategic Services. The papers also include material for the A.S.T.P. reunion at Yale in 1990, and a 1995 diary of a return visit to Burma.

Harvey Seymour Sussman was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 3, 1923. He served with the Office of Strategic Services in Washington, D.C., London, Burma, Ceylon, and Southeast Asia from 1944 to 1945. Sussman was a member of the Army Specialized Training Program at Yale from 1943 to 1944 and studied the Malayan language. He graduated from Yale in 1947. Unit 3900 of the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) was established by the War Department at Oregon State College in March 1943. The program provided training for high grade technicians and specialists needed by the Army for the war effort. Most of the instruction was provided by regular Oregon State College faculty; E.B.
