Sir Jona[tha]n Simple's journey to London, [18th century].

Manuscript of a comic poem about "Sir Jona...n the simple nam'd, for eating treacle sops much fam'd." Jona[tha]n, an impoverished but arrogant and gluttonous knight, intends to take a coach to London with his squire, but had spent all his money on food while waiting to depart. Without a fare, the coach-driver makes him ride in the basket with Vulcan, where he develops indigestion from his overindulgence and the jostling of the coach. The remainder of the poem desribes in detail Jona[tha]n's attempt to conceal the unpleasant consequences of his indigestion, to escape Vulcan's revenge, and to find money to pay for the coach fare.
