Memorandum on my conversation at Bath, 1765.

Autograph manuscript of a memorandum recording Townshend's conversation with William Pitt, and Townshend's inquiry on behalf of the Duke of Grafton, Lord Rockingham, and Mr. [Henry Seymour?] Conway, into Pitt's willingness to give "his opinion & assistance in settling the affairs of America," and his willingness to serve as Prime Minister. Pitt praises the Duke of Newcastle as an efficient minister, and said "he should be sorry to displace anyone" but that he would "make some changes" and desire to promote some of his friends if he accepts the position. Pitt will not give his opinion on America to Townshend, but only to the King or to the Public.
