MS documents include warrants, records of payments and receipts, and bills for allowances pertaining to royal officials. Several of the items refer to expenses incurred while serving Prince Charles (Charles I, 1600-45). Also included are a list of officers of the Exchequer who had made loans to James I (1566-1625), and several letters signed.

Sir John Fortescue, a prominent scholar of Greek and Latin, became Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1589. Fortescue became wealthy through his office and connections to the Custom House.
