Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of copies of several hundred petitions to the Excise Commissioners, along with the Commissioners' replies. Numerous petitions concern the alcohol trade, including an alebrewer's request for release from debt; other subjects of petitions include payments of hearth money; pensions for the Queen Dowager and Isabella (Bennet) Fitzroy, Duchess of Grafton (b. 1667); the seizure and condemnation of brandy; and the salt trade. The volume also contains a list of salaries for employees of the Excise Office and a list of "Money paid by severall Collectors of Excise to be repaid by the Treasury of his Majesty's Navy for Conveying Seamen and Imprest men from place to place."
