Journal of a visit to St. Petersburg in 1832, 1832 Jun.

Holograph diary of Oldfield's impressions during a three week visit to St. Petersburg. Topics include sights such as Nevsky Prospekt, the Winter and Summer Palaces, the Hermitage, and the Imperial Library; Oldfield's acquaintances among the resident English; his enjoyment of the theaters, restaurants and cafes of the city; his opinion of Russian women as compared to French and English women; military parades; the presence of serfs; and the country house of his friend Robert Cattley at Mulino. Illustrated with ten drawings in pencil, pen and wash. Subjects include views of Cronborg Harbor; army and police officers; coaches and "drotshkies;" and serfs. There are two full page illustrations of Cattley's dacha and of "St. Petersburg from the English Quay."
